It started with a powerful idea from a number of social entrepreneurs: give people in poverty something nice, without them having to ask for it. Soon, local entrepreneurs began offering free products or services, from haircuts to dinners. All these contributions were initially tracked and distributed manually in a large Excel sheet. Time-consuming and not scalable. Because what if supply and demand shoot through the roof? Quiet visited Freshheads.
No demand, only supply
We sat down together and came to an innovative starting point: not the demand, but the supply had to be central. No requests, no conditions. It is about moments of happiness that you are granted. Together with Quiet, we came up with how technology could help with something that is so human: giving without expecting anything in return. From that thought, the Quiet marketplace was born, where entrepreneurs can share their offer and communities can allocate the moments of happiness to their members.
Tilburg kicks off, the Netherlands follows
What started as a local initiative in Tilburg has grown into a national movement. Today, there are fifteen Quiet communities spread across the Netherlands, with thousands of moments of happiness per month. Each community has its own online platform, built on the same digital core, so they can grow locally but collaborate nationally.
“Trust is what makes our collaboration so special,” says Maud Vorstenbosch, business strategist at Freshheads. “There is room to be critical. We dare to experiment together and keep looking at what can be improved. That makes it fun, educational and above all very valuable”. That trust ensures we are close to the Quiet organization. We help think about strategy, build new features, test with their members and celebrate successes together.
What cycling and feedback have in common
Ten years of working together does not only bring results, but Maud also has other great memories. “Like director Ralf who cycles by Freshheads, Quiet members who come to the office to help test new features and drinking a glass of wine together from the product owner's collection.”
Learning, innovating and celebrating together
In 2023, we launched a new app for Quiet members, developed based on feedback from the community. “Instead of following habits, we looked at what members really need,” Maud says. “We dare to question things that otherwise would have stayed the same for years. That takes guts and trust from both sides.” There is now a simpler and more human platform that was rewarded with a nomination for the Dutch Interactive Awards later that year.
