At Freshheads, we have the privilege of working with people who not only dream of change but also do everything to make it a reality. Kevin van Windt, the founder of Based On Skills, is exactly that kind of person. With his platform, he empowers an entire generation of young people, and we are pleased to assist him in realizing his ambitious plans.

Kevin as an entrepreneur

Entrepreneurship is in Kevin's blood. Inspired by his cousin who is also an entrepreneur, he previously started Work N Grow, a study and career guidance company. Here, he noticed the huge gap between young people and the job market and the challenges they face in finding work. But he also saw opportunities: what if we don't just look at resumes and diplomas, but at what someone can really do?

Kevin loves being creative and collaborating with people he finds inspiring. His strength lies in understanding his target audience. Young people who have difficulty finding a job feel heard and seen by him. With Based On Skills, he wants to make a difference for this group.

What is Based On Skills?

Based On Skills is a platform that connects young people and employers in an innovative way. It works like Tinder, but for jobs. The idea: no longer focus on educational level or work experience, but on what you can do and what you want to learn. No more traditional resumes, but a profile that truly shows who you are and what you have to offer. And it goes beyond just making matches: the platform helps young people develop themselves and stand strong in the job market.

The target group? Mainly young people who have just left school or need help finding a place in the job market. For this group, it is often difficult to find their first job. They face prejudices based on their background, age, and educational level. The platform helps them break through these barriers by focusing on their talents and skills instead of their diplomas or work experience. By setting up a low-threshold and user-friendly profile, young people can show what they really have to offer.

Based On Skills is there to make the job market more accessible for everyone. Kevin believes that a good job should be within reach for everyone, regardless of background. And that starts with employers who look beyond diplomas.

The collaboration with Freshheads

When Kevin came to Freshheads, he had already built a first version of his app with a few freelancers. That gave him valuable feedback, but he knew it was time for the next step. Together with us, he started working to take Based On Skills to a higher level.

We completely rebuilt the app and launched it in July. We are currently working on the backend and adding new features. The goal is clear: establish a solid foundation on which Based On Skills can grow and scale.

Besides thinking about the technology, we also think about strategy. How do you connect employers with young people? How do you show employers the value of the platform? And how do you ensure they keep coming back?

Kevin is not only enthusiastic about the collaboration but also the personal approach. He appreciates that we look beyond technology and think about how he can achieve his mission.

A platform with a mission

Kevin's dream is big. In five years, he hopes Based On Skills will be the number one place for young people looking for work. And we believe he'll get there. Kevin believes that the traditional way of applying, which mainly looks at educational level and work experience, no longer fits the desires and needs of this generation. With his energy, creativity, and dedication, he is an ambassador of his own brand – and for the young people he wants to help.
