How to prepare your platform for AI

AI is changing how people use digital services. More and more, they are asking questions via ChatGPT, Copilot, or another AI interface instead of navigating through pages, menus, and filters. The LLMs and MCP servers are becoming the new entry point for information, transactions, and services. Platforms and websites remain important, but interaction is shifting from clicking to chatting. In this article, you will read how to prepare your platform for the impact of AI.
Becoming Visible within LLMs
Because people are increasingly searching outside your platform or website, your data becomes the gateway to your services. Four things are crucial to be visible in AI results:
Set up an MCP server to make your data accessible to AI.
Ensure your data is structured and clean in one location.
Answer questions with content that users might ask AI.
Regularly update the content, keeping it current.
What is an MCP server?
An MCP server allows connecting an LLM with one or more databases. This way, you can feed the AI with useful information. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard, specifically designed for this use. With the implementation of an MCP server, you no longer need to connect AI apps with separate data sources; a single connection with the server is sufficient. It's especially handy if you want to link many models and sources. This linkage works both ways: AI can also add information to the database.
How relevant is a (personal) platform still?
Platforms remain necessary for complex tasks, distinctive capability, and experience. The future is a hybrid interplay between today's interfaces and AI chat windows. Language will be interwoven as the new interface in the interfaces we know and vice versa. “Differentiation will soon not be in filter menus but in smart conversation flows, the personal touch, and a recognizable brand experience,” says Rens Alkemade, business strategist at Freshheads. His advice to maintain the relevance of your platform is: “Prepare teams now for AI thinking, designing, and developing. Start with small experiments like searching via AI, performing simple tasks through language, and proactive and personalized notifications. Also, set up an MCP server in advance, so you can experiment with AI easily.”
New Opportunities for Growth
Rens and Kevin (backend developer) see that AI offers organizations with a platform various opportunities:
More efficient processes: AI not only shows information but also performs actions for you and your users, such as sending a job application, booking a vacation, or modifying insurance.
Proactive service: platforms can self-detect what someone needs and respond to it.
Accessible to everyone: language and speech options make your platform understandable for all nationalities, dialects, and people with (visual) impairments.
New revenue models with new app stores: think of specialized apps for job offers across the Netherlands or booking a vacation.
The Checklist: What Organizations Must Do Now
Get your data in order: one source, clearly structured, easy to maintain.
Start with an MCP server: make your data usable for AI.
Focus on relevant content: answer real user questions.
Experiment quickly and often: build small AI applications like search assistants, writing aids, or proactive notifications.
Prepare teams for AI-first thinking: users will soon expect everything to work via language, which requires different choices in design and technology.
Need Help?
Freshheads helps organizations move along step by step. For instance, by structuring your data and setting up an MCP server, discovering AI opportunities in the customer journey, experimenting with prototypes, and future-proofing platforms with language as the primary interface.
